minutesTandoori chicken drumsticks is a very popular and easy to make starter. Drumsticks are usually served with mint chutney as an accompaniment. Tandoori drumsticks are cooked in the oven and charred slightly to bring the smoky flavor.
Ingredients
Chicken drumsticks – 11 sticks.
Chili powder – 3 tsps.
Kashmiri Chili powder – 2 tsps.
Lemon juice – 3 tbsps.
Salt – 2-3 tsps.
Yogurt – ¾ cup
Ginger-Garlic paste – 4 tsps.
Oil – ¼ cup
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp.
Directions
- Make incisions with a sharp knife on the chicken drumsticks.
- In a bowl add chili powders, salt, ginger- garlic paste, yogurt, garam masala, turmeric powder and half of the oil.
- Apply masala mixture to the drumsticks.
- Leave the marinated chicken in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or for best results leave it overnight.
- Take a grill tray and place the marinated chicken drumsticks on it.
- Preheat oven to 400°F or 205°C.
- Place the tray in the oven and grill for 18-20 minutes.
- Then flip the sides of the chicken and grill further for about 18-20 minutes.
- Drizzle oil on to the chicken pieces.
- Finally grill at 550°F or 285°C for about 5 minutes or until you see the pieces are slightly charred.
- Remove the tray from oven and set aside on a serving tray.
- Garnish with onion juliennes, coriander leaves and lemon wedges.
Notes
- In the restaurants, one would use red food color. But I have used Kashmiri chili powder to give the natural orangish red color.
- In the restaurants, they would grill in the tandoor but you can use your oven to grill the chicken.
